  • Year 1
  • In your first year, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the nature and context of business by adopting an analytical approach to your studies. You’ll look into all aspects of the international business world and discover how to get the most out of your degree and your time at university. You’ll also get the chance to learn up to two modern languages alongside your degree, choosing from French or Spanish, with the option to specialise in one foreign language.

    • ABF107 Business Accounting

      Business Accounting introduces accounting as the measurement, recording and communication of financial information for the purpose of business decision making in the context of risk, sustainability and liquidity. Business Accounting exposes the practical application of a range of relevant accounting techniques which enable effective decision making process. On successful completion of the module students should be able to prepare report and analyse the key financial statements for decision making purposes.

    • ECN106 Economics for Business

      This module provides an introduction to economics in a business context. It explores some basic concepts and techniques involved in economic analysis at an introductory level, and considers the relevance of economics, and of the economic environment, to business decision-making.

    • BSO105 Entrepreneurial Thought and Action

      The module will provide participants with an introduction to the themes of Being Enterprising, ethics and Education for Sustainable Development (EfSD). It will develop a range of academic and professional skills including: consulting, researching (multimedia); academic writing; feedback and reflection; professional presentation skills; team working, leadership and project management. The module has an action research focus and will explore entrepreneurship in a variety of organisational contexts (e.g. social enterprise, not for profit, SME's, public sector, private enterprise).

      This module introduces students to the study of individuals and groups within the organisational context.

    • BSO104 World of Enterprise

      This module will introduce students to the key concept of enterprise. There will be a consideration enterprise in the form of organisations, entrepreneurial activity, initiative and resourcefulness and projects. The module will provide the foundation knowledge of how organisations work with a focus on people, process and outputs. The changing global context and digital nature of information will be covered as will emerging models of business. There will be an emphasis on people in organisations and sustainability.

  • In year two, you’ll study the critical importance of enterprise and innovation to organisations and look into how they go about creating a culture of success. You’ll deepen your knowledge of the key areas of business, including different job roles and techniques, and continue progressing with your chosen language option.       This module provides an overview of organisational activities which are characterised as people management.

    • MKT202 Marketing Fundamentals

      This module examines the concepts that underpin marketing as both a business philosophy and a functional activity. It considers the application of these concepts in all types of organisations and markets. The module focuses on achieving competitive advantage through the development of marketing mixes founded upon the centrality of the customer.

    • EPIE201 Placement Preparation: BA Internation Business

      This module is aimed at students who will be undertaking a study or work placement outside the UK in the third year BA International Business. It is designed to build on skills learned in Stage 1 and helps students in their search for a placement, and in their preparation for the placement itself.

      This module examines the key aspects of professional selling, based upon accepted sales practices. These include the identification of prospects, the use of consultative sales techniques to gain the order, and the use of post-sale service to engender good will amongst customers and to encourage repeat purchase. It provides participants with the basic skills to achieve each aspect of the selling process, while encouraging them to temper these abilities with strong ethical considerations.

      This interdisciplinary module develops students' ability to assess how organisations can adapt, innovate and thrive in response to the macro social, economic and environmental forces impacting society and organisations. The module develops an awareness of the key physical, structural, social and moral challenges faced and encourages students to develop innovative systems thinking approaches to how organisations can adapt to, mitigate against and capitalise on this unprecedented period of intense and unpredictable change.

  • Work placement year
  • In your third year, you’ll experience the world of international business first hand by working for a year within a business anywhere in the world or studying at one of our partner universities overseas. We’ll support you to find a placement that’s right for you and where you can put your new found business skills into practice in real life situations.

      The placement year consists of an extended period of appropriate professional experience in a business or organisation. It allows the student to gain relevant experience to consolidate their studies and prepare for final stage study and employment after graduation. Students on BA International Business may also undertake a study placement at an approved partner institution.

    • EPIE301 The Placement Project

      This module requires students to produce a project relating to their placement experience.

  • Final year
  • In your final year, you’ll refine your knowledge of your chosen language and engage with topics such as corporate strategy, global enterprise issues and international trade. By applying the experiences gained on your placement year to your studies, you’ll also draw on industry experience to complement your academic studies.

      The module reviews the latest in IT practice and research and its relevance to the management discipline. It covers topics such as legislation, ethics, security, sustainability and corporate governance and the role IT plays in these.

      This module exposes students to current debates within the field of business and management. The content will be fluid as it will draw on contemporary case studies, technological innovation, government legislation and philosophical, ethical or environmental debates.

      The module covers financial modelling for bonds and rates, equities, currencies and options. While analysing and modelling each category of securities with specific and pertinent approaches, it stresses the underlying principles governing all valuation processes. The module also equips the students with the skills to use software, such as Excel, for implementing models and perform analysis.

      Consideration of HR strategy and current developments in the management of human resources in modern organisations operating within complex environments.

    • HRS302 International and Comparative HRM

      Students are introduced to: the implications of globalisation for HRM and labour, the particular human resource management problems confronted by Multinational organisations; human resource management systems in a range of different national contexts; and the social dimension of the EU and its implications for HRM.

    • ABF310 International Financial Management

      In this module students will study the framework and operation of international money markets, and the operational and strategic management of international investment and financing. In addition, students will examine the constraints and competitive pressures faced by finance managers in international markets, and the range of financial instruments used to minimise exchange risk exposure and support international trade.

    • MKT303 International Marketing

      An integrative module acquainting the students with the international business environment, the international marketing planning process and issues in implementation of international marketing plans.

    • BMG305 Managing Change

      This module considers the importance of change within an organisation and examines the interrelationships and interactions between employees, changes in strategic direction and processes, and organisational effectiveness.

      This module brings a strategic and problem-focused view to operations management, concentrating on spheres key to operations based competitive advantage, both in goods and service based industries. Particular consideration is given to operations strategy, supply chain management, lean thinking, performance measurement, quality management, project management and topical developments.

    • BMG302 Organisational Leadership

      A multi-layered perspective examines the role of leadership in relation to structural, social, political, cultural and psychological processes at individual, team, organisational and national levels. The ethical and moral responsibilities of corporate leaders are critiqued as is the inter-relationship between leadership, governance, decision-making and change.

It aims to address the 'invisibility' of women in the mainstream business course literature by exploring gender perspectives in specific work contexts (e.g. large corporate, SME, micro, self- employed, informal economy). The module tackles contemporary issues, debating topics that are simultaneously enlightening and inspiring, as well as disconcerting and raw.

Entry requirements

A level/AS level: 240 points (including a minimum of 160 points from two A levels). 14-19 Diplomas are accepted. Other combinations and non-A level qualifications also considered.
